MENOMINEE TRIBE ISSUES THE FOLLOWING EMERGENCY ORDER TO PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH FROM COVID-19

(Menominee Indian Reservation, WI) – In response to the spike in positive COVID-19 cases within the borders of the reservation and in surrounding counties, the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin’s COVID-19 Incident Command Team is issuing Emergency Order #4. This order calls for the closure of the following entities in order to promote public safety and slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus to vulnerable populations:

1. Menominee Nation Casino & Thunderbird Complex gaming establishments EXCEPT for:
a. Restaurants within gaming establishments shall only be available for curbside takeout of food;
b. Casino Gift Shop
c. Thunderbird C-Store
2. All farmer’s markets
3. All bars and restaurants EXCEPT for curbside takeout of food
4. Tribal Head start and day care facilities
5. Menominee Tribal Government Buildings EXCEPT for:
i. Menominee Tribal Clinic (MTC)
ii. Food Distribution
iii. Tribal Detention Facilities,
iv. Election Office
v. CBRF
vi. DV Shelter
vii. Eagles Nest Emergency Shelter
viii. Tribal Courts as determined by the Chief Justice

Changes in MTC operations include expanded hours from 8:00AM to 6:00PM Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM to12:00 PM on Saturdays, but the clinic will only provide necessary care including COVID-19 testing and Flu vaccinations. Menominee Tribal Enterprises (MTE) will implement telework where feasible except for minimal support staff for logging operations. All Menominee Tribal Government Offices shall resume telework with exceptions to Chair’s office, police officers, conservation officers, health care workers, child protection staff, payroll, IT, transit staff providing service to the elderly, maintenance and housekeeping staff.

Curfew will be in place between the hours of 10:00PM to 6:00AM. Exceptions include: emergency travel/care, law enforcement, government function, regular travel to or from work, individual traveling through the Reservation, legal fishing,
spearing or hunting activities, and accessing essential goods and services during normal business hours.

This order will take effect beginning at 10:00PM September 16th 2020, and will remain in effect until 6:00AM September 28th, 2020 or unless renewed by the Emergency Management Coordinator. This order is to be enforced by the Menominee Tribal Police and Conservation Officers; violators may be subject to civil forfeiture to the amount of $500.00.
