Housing

The Housing Department has a staff of forty (40) personnel who provide housing services to the community through eighteen (18) major components and/or programs. The "service area" for HUD funded housing initiatives and programs is defined in the tribe's Indian Housing Plan (IHP) as Serving Menominee, Shawano, Langlade and Marathon Counties. The Menominee Tribal Housing Department is under the auspices of the Tribal Government. The Director reports directly to the Tribal Administrator and also reports monthly to the Legislative Committee on Housing.

The Administration element of the Housing Department is made up of the Director, Accountant/Supervisor, Grantwriter/Planner, and Maintenance/Rehab Manager. Together they provide the overall management and guidance for the day-to-day and long term operations of the Housing Department. The Accounting Supervisor, an assistant, and a collections clerk run the Housing Department's Finance office. Our emergency loan program is also available. Federally accepted accounting and audit procedures are utilized for all program dollars administered by the Housing Department. All accounts are computerized utilizing state of the art accounting software. High speed network connections with the Tribal Finance Department allow program managers instant access and review of expenditures as well as the balance on all accounts, for all program areas, on a real-time basis.

With 278 rental units and the availability of rental assistance for privately-owned units in the inventory, we are able to provide a wide range of options for those in need of housing on and near the Menominee Indian Reservation. We also offer a wide array of related housing services that are geared toward meeting the needs of the elderly, disabled and homeowners. Stop by and see us today!
