Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - Participation Guideline

Duration of Benefits
There is a lifetime maximum of 60 months for participation in Tribal TANF.

Once the 60 months are depleted, they may never apply again for TANF benefits. The 60 months do not have to be consecutive.

Tribal TANF will count prior months of TANF assistance by any State or Tribe funded with TANF block grant funds.

The main purpose of the TANF program is for the participants to gain employment.

Single parents must participate in a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Two parent families, each individual parent must participate a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Within the labor market, employers expect their employees to appear for work on time and to satisfactorily perform their job duties. Participation in work activities helps participants learn to meet expectation and compete successfully in the labor market.

To meet work activity expectations, the participant must:
Attend the assigned work activity and perform the work act.

This means participants will:
Appear and remain at their work activity site as scheduled, arrive on time, ready to perform the assigned task.

Changes
PARTICIPANTS MUST NOTIFY THEIR CASE WORKER AND JOB SITE SUPERVISOR OF ALL ABSENCES 1 HOUR PRIOR TO THEIR ASSIGNED ACTIVITY.

All changes must be reported immediately and the participant must provide documentation within 10 days.

Each participant head of household is required to complete a monthly change report form.

Participants shall meet with case workers on a weekly basis to return time sheets and discuss monthly activities.

Participants will be sanctioned for non-compliance with their family service plan.

Violations may include: not enough hours worked, failure to keep children in school, commission of domestic violence, failure to adhere to positive drug test results or refusal to cooperate with Child Support.

Job Quit or Refusal to Work.

Recipients of the Menominee Tribal TANF program are not allowed to receive duplicative assistance from any other state or other Tribal TANF program.
