The worst impact on the tribal groups was the diseases that the Europeans brought with them. Diseases the tribes had no immunity for and no cures. The first to hit the Western Great Lakes area was small pox; the first attack of that dreaded scourge destroyed entire tribes and decimated other groups to near annihilation. See Epidemics.
