The Youth Advocate is best defined as a bridge between the Family/Youth and Appropriate Community Resources or a bridge
between Family and Youth in general. Truancy Reduction Program: - The Youth Advocate facilitates a web based truancy program called “True Life Interactive.” Youth are referred to this program after their first citation for truancy. The five day program enables youth to envision their future while setting specific goals on getting there. Each day, a different topic is explored in addition to each youth working their individual “true life” program. The class is normally held the last week of the month excluding holidays and the topics are as follows: Day 1: Student/ Parent Orientation- Identifying Causes of Truancy Day 2: Case & Effect Relationship, True Life Day 3: Beliefs, Attitudes & Thoughts about School, True Life Day 4: Re-thinking Education & My Career, True Life Day 5: Plans for Success, True Life Alliance for Wisconsin Youth - Menominee Youth Alliance The Youth Advocate facilitates the Menominee Youth Alliance meetings and activities for Menominee County. What is Youth Alliance? Youth Alliance is a group of youth ages 11-17 who want to make a difference in their life and community by making positive choices. These youth also sign a drug and tobacco free pledge upon becoming a member. Volunteerism is a big part of Youth Alliance and members plan and participate in a number of different community events throughout the year. In addition to members feeling like a vested part of the community, participating members are treated to a quarterly incentive. Community Service hours can also be used to exercise Civic Service which looks good on the resumes and National Honor Society. * New project for youth alliance is the Police Cadet Program; it is in the planning phases right now. |
