The Youth Development & Outreach, along with the Parenting Workgroup, has developed a Menominee Parenting
Manual for parents who have children ages infant to 4 years of age. This manual has been distributed throughout the community and is accessible at various early childhood locations. Facilitators have been trained in the delivery of the manual. Contact the Youth Development & Outreach office for a list of further information regarding these locations. The manual is designed as a 10-week, one-time-per-week, 2 hour classes that encompass the following subjects; Menominee Identity, Childhood Development, Communication, Relationships and Visions. Parents of Teens: These are for 3 sessions one time a week for 2 hours. For parents of teens who might be experiencing some challenges related to caring for their teen. Parents will be provided with the opportunity to share and discuss different ways to think about their teens. A highlight of this component is that a Youth Panel will be present during the second class for a question/answer session. Parents will gain more insight regarding teen issues in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Topics such as education, culture, development, discipline, drugs, alcohol, sex and communication are among some of the topics discussed. Watch the Tribal News and local bulletin boards for announcements on classes offered. |
