The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides USDA commodities to low-income individuals. The program began in 1981 when USDA decided to distribute surplus foods it had acquired through price support. While intended to be temporary and end when the surpluses were reduced, which happened around 1987, many low-income people came to rely on the commodities. In response, Congress has continued to fund the program. The program then changed to The Emergency Food Assistance Pantry.

The pantry is required to have a match of donated food. Thanks to the College of the Menominee Nation we are able to contract with Second Harvest for some of our food items and we receive food items from the Casino when they have their food drives. The donated food items are issued with the TEFAP food items to help supplement low-income households who are in need of extra food..

TEFAP provides a variety of nutritious commodities to eligible persons who apply. Your household can receive surplus food items if you are on Food Stamps or Food Distribution.
