What is Burial Benefits?
The Tribe provides a burial benefit for all enrolled Menominee Tribal Members that went to effect on October 23, 1995. It is to assist the family of the deceased enrolled Menominee Tribal member with some of the actual burial cost.

Who is eligible?
Deceased enrolled Menominee Tribal members, family members of the deceased can apply and the Funeral home will receive the check to help cover some of the costs.

How do I know if my family member is eligible?
The Insurance Dept. has an online system connection with the Menominee Tribal Enrollment that provides us with up to date enrolled members listed. Newborns may be eligible as well however you must contact the Menominee Tribal Enrollment Dept. for more information.

How much is given?

  1. Enrolled Menominee Tribal members 0-6 months of age, up to $300.00
  2. Enrolled Menominee Tribal members 6 months or older, up to $3000.00
    • Anything over, will be the family member’s responsibility.
    • Anything less is exactly what the Tribe will pay.
    • For 0-6 months children eligible for the benefits, all following conditions must be met:
      1. One of the parents is enrolled (½ blood quantum)
      2. Application for enrollment submitted to the Enrollment Office prior to death
      3. Tribal member ship for the child is subsequently approved
      4. Will need copy of birth certificate when applying for burial benefits.
        • Burial benefits are paid directly to the Funeral Home, not to an individual. Payments to the Funeral Home will be made 30-45 days after the claim is filed.
What information do I need for the Insurance Dept?
Normally most Funeral Homes work well with the Menominee Tribe, they should send the Menominee Tribal Insurance Dept:
  1. Certified copy of the Death Certificate
  2. Copy of the final bill.
